What are the requirements for a website to join VoltRank network?

Minimum requirements:

Your website server must support PHP. Your website might be using HTML code but your web host will need to have PHP set up on their server as VoltRank uses PHP scripts.

The website must be indexed in Google Cache.

We do not accept porn, warez, gambling and pharmacy content.

Our moderators might reject websites that have:

  • unoriginal content
  • little content on the subpages
  • a lot of outgoing links - link farms
return to questions
Why doesn't my website display other VoltRank members' ads?

It may take quite some time before they appear on your site. VoltRank's capacity is quite big and the ads that are being published only use a fraction of available slots. This, however, does not affect you in any way so do not be alarmed if several days from now your website will still not show any links. We award Volts based on the space you share and not on what is actually used by other members.

return to questions
How does VoltRank work?

VoltRank is based on exchange of ads on our members' websites. You share advertising space on your website and publish your ads on other websites. This helps to increase Google rankings of both parties.

return to questions
What do I get points for?

The amount of Volts you get depends on the quality of your website and the number of subpages that you share with VoltRank. The higher the PageRank your pages have the more Volts you get. The points you receive are used to publish your ads on other websites. Your ads will be published permanently. If someone takes the page off or it is rejected by our moderator, you get the Volts back and can use them again on other sites.

Please take note that you do not get any Volts for pages that are not indexed in Google Cache. For any page you can query Google by typing "info:URL" and check if it knows the page and has it in its cache.

Also, if your pages are to be disclosed to VoltRank, someone or something needs to visit them after you install VoltRank script on your website. If you're not in a hurry just wait for Google to index those pages, but you can also crawl them yourself by using http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

return to questions
Why should I choose VoltRank over other similar services?

We are growing fast and are highly motivated. We have decided that our company culture is going to be user-centered which is not common in this industry. We actively listen to users, collect feedback and lay out the roadmap according to their needs. We are constantly developing many new features. Some of them are at the very core of the system and others mean that our members will have the highest user experience possible. Quality is what we always have in mind.

Each website and ad that our members add to VoltRank is checked by a human moderator. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards adult, gambling, pharmacy and warez websites. All the other websites are also individually approved only after we make sure their content is not obscene or offensive.

All websites and each one of their subpages are checked in Google. We explicitly check if they are present in Google Cache and not just being indexed by Google.

In the future we are going to offer Premium Accounts that will give our power users more features and greater flexibility.

return to questions
How long do I have to wait for results?

Building your website's PageRank is a long-term process and depends on many factors: what keywords you are positioning on, how big the competition for those keywords is, how quickly Google counts links to your website etc. Results are not instantaneous and they should not be. In fact, growing links too quickly may do more harm than good. That is why we recommend setting daily and monthly limits. The whole process should be continuous but balanced. If you are patient and work on gaining new links to your website, you should see the results in a few months.

return to questions
What should I do first?

For your links to get published, first add your website to VoltRank and share advertising space which we'll use to publish other people's links. Then prepare some ads that will be published on high quality sites within the VoltRank network. You get points for sharing slots on your website and the system uses those points to distribute your links.

You should be able to invoke VoltRank script from any theme .php file by inserting this code:

<?php the_widget('VoltRank_Widget'); ?>

We suggest you place the code in footer.php or sidebar.php file.

return to questions
Does VoltRank support Wordpress.com, Blogger.com, Blogspot.com?

VoltRank supports Wordpress 2.8+ and requires installation of our plugin. Unfortunately, Wordpress.com, Blogger.com and Blogspot.com platforms do not allow their users to upload any plugins and cannot become part of VoltRank network.

return to questions
Does VoltRank support ASP.NET websites?

VoltRank's scripts are written in PHP and it is a technical requirement that the website supports PHP code. Therefore, at present we cannot accept ASP.NET sites.

return to questions
How will my website look with after I install VoltRank?

We have two types of ads. Text Links, which are regular links, and Text Ads, which are similar to Google AdSense. These ads have three short lines of text and some part of this text can be a link. They need more space, but we give twice as much Volts for them. You can have up to 10 links on your website and you need to provide space for them. You can choose the layout, eg. one column with ten rows, or two columns with five rows each etc. You also have control over colors: background, border, links, text.

Please consider it carefully what type of ads and how many you want to display on your website. In order to protect your service, we only allow 48h since installation to make any changes.

We encourage you to try adding your website. We do not display any ads until the website is activated, so in the third step of our "New website" wizard, you will be able to experiment with types and layouts without affecting your website.

return to questions
Is it safe to place VoltRank files into my website directory?

VoltRank files and script are totally harmless. They are necessary for the system to work. There are already thousands of members who get benefits from using VoltRank and they all have our files uploaded.

Routine operations

How does the limits system work and why do I need limits?

These settings are used to control link growth. The link growth control is important if you do not want your website to clash with Google. If you publish too many links daily or monthly they could remove your website from their index or seriously decrease your PageRank.

You can set daily and monthly limits to link growth and you can stop publishing new links once a certain limit has been reached.

return to questions
How do Text Links and Text Ads differ?

Text Ads take up a little more space on a website (three lines rather than one line of a Text Link) but you get twice as many Volts for allowing them to appear on your website.

Also, a Text Ad places the link in context of the sentence, thus improving its relevance to search engines.

return to questions
How can I check if my website is cached by Google?

You can query Google by typing "cache:URL" and check if it knows the page and has it in its cache.

return to questions
How can I check PageRank of my website?

There are numerous websites that offer to check your PageRank e.g. http://www.wmtips.com/tools/info/

return to questions
How do I publish my ads on other websites?

Ads exchange is an automatic process. Once you get Volts for sharing space on your website, you can add your ads to the system and VoltRank takes care of the rest.

return to questions
I don't want to be linked to any offensive websites.

We have a restricted policy towards adult, gambling, pharmacy and warez websites. We simply do not accept them in VoltRank. Also, we DO moderate all the websites and ads that are added into the system. Our moderators will not only block a low quality site, but also links to such sites or offensive anchor texts. Despite this being a huge amount of work for our staff, needs to be done in order to maintain the quality we desire.

return to questions
How long will it take before I get Volts?

Our system checks for new pages every few hours. The time it needs to allocate the points depends on the number of subpages that you share with VoltRank. The more pages you add the more time it will take to process them.

return to questions
How does VoltRank find out about the subpages I add?

Someone or something (eg. Googlebot) needs to visit the added subpages after you install VoltRank script on them. Then our system will start to process them and award Volts.

return to questions
Where can I follow the process of Volts build-up?

You can follow the course of processing subpages and allocation of points by clicking the website URL in the "Manage Websites" section of your account. "Known pages" shows the number of pages that VoltRank has in its database. "Processed" shows the pages that we have already checked and "Volts awarded" indicates how many points you have earned.

return to questions
How much space should I share?

The more space you share, the more Volts you will get and the more ads you will be able to publish on other sites. The number of points you receive for sharing your space and the number of points that are deducted for publishing your ads depends on whether it is main page and what PageRank it is.
